Gomoku Swap and Swap2 rules and opening steps

Learn who places the opening stones and chooses a color in Swap and Swap2, how exact-five differs from Renju, and start an AI or online game.

Swap · Swap2

In Swap, the opener places black–white–black, then the other player chooses a color. Swap2 also lets that player place white–black and give the color choice back to the opener. White plays next after colors are assigned.

Standard Gomoku exercises

Standard Gomoku: exactly five wins for either color. An overline does not win; double threes and double fours are allowed. These are not Renju rules.

Renju

Basic Renju: Black opens in the centre; double-threes, double-fours and overlines are blocked. Black wins with exactly five, White with five or more. Tournament swap openings are not included.

Global leaderboard

Eligible online games between members are ranked separately for Swap and Swap2. AI and guest games are excluded; games played before the Swap leaderboards launched are not counted retroactively.
